China Becomes Brazil's Largest Export Destination

According to the latest statistics from the Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat, from January to April 2009, Brazil exported 5.626 billion US dollars to China and imported 4.616 billion US dollars from China, a year-on-year increase of 66.7% and -16.2%, respectively. China has become Brazil's largest export destination and second largest source of imports.
Statistics show that in the first four months of this year, Brazil's total import and export volume was $80.276 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 19.5%. Among them, exports amounted to $43.499 billion and imports amounted to $36.777 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 16.5% and 22.8%, respectively. The trade surplus was 6.722 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 49.4%.
